How to Make a Scented Lace Clothes Hanger

Bev Cohen
Scented lace clothes hangers are beautiful! What gives them the lovely scent is potpourri. The lace gives the hanger an exquisite look. These hangers can be given as gifts or used to hang your most delicate clothes or used as a decoration. I've made about a dozen of these. First I used white lace with blue lace trim which produced a very feminine look. Then I started experimenting. I used black lace and trimmed it with white lace trim. Now I had a sexy hanger. I've since used black lace with pink lace trim, black lace with burgundy lace trim, black lace with baby blue trim, cream lace with black trim, and a few more. The results have been fabulous. Of course, the flowers and beads you choose to decorate with give each hanger a unique look. And the great news is that these lace hangers require no sewing, only a glue gun. Give it a try. I think you'll be amazed with the results!

Supplies Needed:

Plastic clothes hanger (white works best for light-colored lace, black works best for dark-colored lace)

Lace (white, cream, black, etc) - 1 yard makes about 4 hangers

Pre-gathered lace trim - 1 yard for each hanger

Silk flower (color of your choice)

String of pearls (available at craft stores)

Potpourri (fragrance of your choice)

Hot glue gun

On a flat surface, place the hanger on the lace. Cut the lace around the main body of the hanger. This will be the front lace panel. Lay the hanger on the lace once again and cut the lace around the main body of the hanger adding 1/2 inch all the way around. This will be the back panel.

Place the hanger on top of the back panel. Glue the back panel to the hanger, bringing the lace edges to the front as you go. Once the back panel of lace is totally secured, place potpourri on top of the lace. Next, secure the front panel of lace with glue.

Starting at the base of the hanger hook, glue the lace trim all the way around the hanger body. This will cover up the seams of the glued lace panels.

Glue the silk flower at the base of the hanger hook. Glue a strand of pearls around the flower, letting the ends of the pearls hang down on the lace.

Look at the beautiful hanger you've made! And the variations in colors are endless!
