What you'll need:
Clear or frosted ball ornaments
Potpourri
1" (or narrower) Ribbon
Scissors
Assembling the Pieces
Select a ball ornament and remove the metal clip from the top. Begin pushing pieces of potpourri into the ornament through the hole in the top. Be careful not to cut your fingers on the glass edges or crack the glass. You can select a variety of pieces and shapes to add interest, or you can pick similar shapes and colors for a different look. You can fill the entire ball with potpourri, or just fill is partially...it is up to you!
When you are finished inserting potpourri, replace the metal clip in the top. You will need this piece to hang your ornament. Cut a piece of ribbon about 16" long and thread it through the loop in the metal clip. Leaving a loop to hang around the tree limb, tie the ribbon in a bow at the top. You may also choose to simply thread the ribbon through the metal loop and then tie it around a tree limb. If you desire, you can cut a second piece of ribbon and tie it in a bow around the neck of the ornament to hide the metal clip.
Selecting Materials
These ornaments can be made with varying combinations of materials to match your décor. Clear or frosted ball ornaments are readily available at any craft store. Some stores even carry clear balls with frosted patterns.
When selecting potpourri, make sure the pieces are small enough to fit into the top of the ball ornament. A red and green Christmas variety with a holiday scent is always a good choice. Choose a pine scent to add a realistic scent to an artificial Christmas tree. If the scent is gone next year, remove the metal clip and add a few drops of scented oil.
Ribbon selection is also variable. Select a fancy ribbon to enhance a formal tree, or choose a red and green plaid for a country look. Ribbon with a 1" width looks great, but if you prefer, you can use a narrower width.
