How to Make Scones

Toby Welford
Scones

This is a basic recipe such as you would find in almost any book.

Recipe

2 cups white Self-Raising flour
2 tablespoons of butter
3/4 cup of milk

  • Pre-heat oven to 210 degrees Celsius.
  • Using the tips of your fingers only, so as not to warm the mixture too much, rub the butter into the flour.
  • Make a well in the centre of the flour /butter mixture, and pour the milk in all at once.
  • Use a blunt knife to mix the milk into the flour.
  • Dust your hands and the benchtop with flour, then knead the dough. Do not use the palms of your hands, as they will heat the dough too much.
  • Roll dough out to about 2cm thickness, or thicker if you want bigger scones. Cut into desired shapes.
  • Place on a greased (or floured) tray, almost touching each other, and bake for about 15minutes.
