How to Score a Great Deal on Designer Handbags

Amy Brantley
For some women, there is nothing better than a handbag from their favorite designer. There's only one problem. Designer handbags can cost several hundred dollars. If you're on a budget, you may think that designer handbags are something you have to keep on your wish list. Thankfully, that's not the case. There are several ways to score great deals on designer handbags.

Shop the Clearance Racks of Your Favorite Department Stores

Stores like JcPenney, Sears, Belk and Macy's sell designer handbags. While the original price can be a bit outrageous, these stores often have a clearance section to make room for the latest styles. If you don't mind a bag that is "last" season, you can score a great deal. It's not uncommon for handbags to be marked down 50-75%. This is an awesome way to get a great deal on a new designer handbag.

Hit Online Auctions

Online auctions are a wonderful way to find designer handbags at a fraction of the cost. You don't have to settle for used handbags either. There are many sellers who specialize in designer handbags and even those that got a bag as a gift, didn't care for it and decided to sell it online. Of course, if you don't mind the thought of a used purse, you can score even better deals. Some people change bags frequently and sell their old ones. These bags are usually in like new condition and have only been used a handful of times. It's not uncommon to find these bags for less than $15. This is a huge savings. You do need to take caution when shopping online though and look for seller that have good feedback. Otherwise, you could end up purchasing a knockoff handbag.

Visit Local Thrift Stores

One of my favorite ways to shop for designer handbags is at thrift stores. One of the local thrift stores in my area sells handbags for $2.50. It doesn't matter if they are designer or not. These bags are usually used, but who cares? Chances are your local thrift stores have similar deals. Just be sure to look the bag over and make sure it's in good shape and got some use left in it. Another great tip is to visit the thrift stores when they have sales that allow you to fill a shopping bag full for one low price. You can get a lot of designer handbags in one shopping bag, which means you may score 10 bags for as little as $5.

Thanks for the suggestions. I would never pay ticket price for a handbag, but I have been able to get some really nice ones over the years without breaking the bank.
