2.) Some materials are much too large to take in one piece, so you may need a torch or saws all.
3.) It's always good to keep at least a minimum tool set with you, some items can be disassembled before loading, and some items you will want to separate. (like bronze fittings on steel pipe.)

When it comes to finding scrap there are several methods you can use, choosing the best option however, isn't as easy.

Once you have made a few stops and your truck bed is full you need to have a place to empty it, and fill your pockets with cash. Some items you may not want to take straight to the scrap yard, so having a small property where you can disassemble them is a plus. Once you are ready to get rid of that scrap metal, you need to get educated by,
1.) Checking scrap prices for different metals on line.
2.) Calling to check with the local scrap yards to see what rate they are paying.
3.)Separating your metals into piles, or buckets, and if you have copper wire (romax, speaker wire, phone line, or coaxial cable) removing the liner from the copper prior to taking it in.
Dealing with the scrap yard, These are some things you should be observant of as you approach the scrap yard.
1.)Noting the location of the scales, and if they have separate scales for smaller amounts of scrap metal.
2.)Where each metal pile or can is located.
3.)Where the back of the line of cars is.

If you follow these rules, have all the right equipment, including truck and tools, scrapping can be a lucrative business at times. Especially during spring cleanup seasons. You do however, need to take care to monitor your gas expenses, and try to have a trip plan that targets groups of addresses all in a line. It's not unusual to make $100 a day on a good day.

Post a CommentNevada isn't the only place. In Washington state you have to have a scrappers licenses to sell more then $30 worth of scrap a day.
Copper thieves have been raiding newly built houses or construction sites and stealing all the copper pipes from new homes here in Nevada. Then going to sell it for scrap, it got so bad that now they take a closer look at you when you come in to sell any copper.
