How to Make a Scrying Mirror

Scrying is a form of divination. To scry means to use a glass ball or some other glassy surface to gaze into and read the future or see the past. The two most commons items used for this are a mirror and a glass ball. The glass ball is placed on a dark cloth or in a dark room so that you cannot completely see through it as you could if it was in the light. Scrying objects need to be a dark color. A scrying mirror is usually black with a glossy surface. In this article I want to help you make your own.

Items needed:

1. A mirror or the glass to a picture with the frame
2. Black glossy spray paint
3. Newspaper

This is a very simple craft project and much cheaper than buying a scrying mirror. You can either use a mirror or the glass from a picture frame that you're not going to use anymore. Its good to keep the frame if you use the glass or you might cut yourself on the sharp edges.

Clean your surface with soapy water. Make sure you get all the imperfections you can off. The surface needs to be clean and smudge free. If you leave anything on it then your mirror could be ruined. After cleaning let it dry completely before you use the spray paint.

To use the spray paint make sure you're outside or in a well ventilated area. Place the newspaper down so you don't get paint everywhere. If doing this inside then be very careful not to spray your floor or table. To be on the safe side you could put a trash bag down and then the newspaper to make sure no color seeps through.

Spray the surface with several thin coats. Let each coat dry before moving on to the next one. You will have to do at least 4 coats and maybe more depending on how well you use spray paint. After painting set it aside for a few hours to make sure its dry. As tempting as it might be do not touch the surface to make sure if its dry. This could ruin the work you've completed.

Now your mirror is ready to be used. If you used the glass from a picture frame you should paint the frame black as well. Do this the same way you painted the glass. Your scrying mirror will last a long time as long as you take care of it. Keep this mirror in a special place preferably in a cloth or bag. To clean it simply use a little water and wipe the surface.
