First I open up my web browser and type in the address: www.careerbuilder.com . It opens up to a page with the "Home" menu tab selected. The other tabs next to it horizontally across the page are:
"My Careerbuilder," where you go if you are a registered user of Careerbuilder to keep up with your job searching. Registration for Careerbuilder is free. You just sign up and fill out the form for information on yourself and enter a user name and password to use for when you log in.
Next to My Careerbuilder is the tab, "Find Jobs," which is one place to do job searches on Careerbuilder but the home page has a basic job search on it.
Next to "Find Jobs" are the tabs, "job recommendations," then "Post Resumes," then "Job Alerts" and finally, "advice and resources" respectfully.
On to our search. In the yellow colored box at the top of the page on the left there is a space to type in keywords and I will type in, "SQL-Server". Next to that box on the form is a space to type in location. You can type in the city and state or your zip code of where you want to get a job. For this search I will type in Fort Worth, TX.
Next I select the job type, "information technology," from the drop down menu. Then I click the "find jobs" button next to it and it takes me to search pages for the job I'm looking for.
My search says at the top of the page that 115 information technology jobs were found within 30 miles of Fort Worth, TX but I want to find them within 5 miles. So I pull down the drop down menu where the number 30 miles appears and change it to 5 miles. It is now narrowed down to 2 pages.
I want to find the most recent job postings available for SQL-server IT jobs in Fort Worth. I click the link at the top of the page that says to sort by "newest jobs first." From there I want to give all my results to my friend who is looking for a job so under each heading I click the link for "email to a friend." Then in the notes part of sending the link in emails I type in how current the posting was as in today or three weeks ago.
That's the basics of a job search I did for a friend of mine. I hope it was helpful to you the reader.
