How to Use The Secret in Your Life, Starting Today

Alicia White
If you've seen or read The Secret, and feel like those scientists and free thinkers may be on to something, I believe you're right. I've been a fan of the movies The Secret and What The Bleep Do We Know (Down the Rabbit Hole) since they first came out in 2006 and 2004, respectively. After years of studying the concept and digging deeper, I feel I have a deeper understanding of how to successfully incorporate The Secret, or the law of attraction, into your life.

One time, and only once, I went to an online forum that had a section dedicated to The Secret and how to apply the law of attraction in your life. At first I was interested in meeting like-minded people online, but was instead saddened at what I found. 99.9% of the people in the forum were sure the law of attraction was the answer to their life's prayer, which was to find a way to sit on the couch and wish for money to drop into their mailbox every day. Almost every single user was focused on money, money, and more wealth. Whether or not the secret was truly hidden from lay-people for hundreds of years, thanks to that forum I now understand why it could have been reserved for the intellectually adept - I don't believe it's meant or able to work in selfish, greedy, mental environments.

The secret isn't just about wishing for money folks, so if that's what you've been doing and wonder why you've run into failure, all I can say is yer doin' it wrong [sic]. There is a fundamental difference between greed and wanting good things to come into your life via the law of attraction. That difference is balance combined with a good attitude. The secret must be used in every aspect of the way you think, and it must come in the way of genuine positive thoughts. It's not easy. Constantly finding the positive in bad situations takes time, patience, and perhaps a certain type of personality or inborn awareness of the world around you. It might not work for everyone, but it is designed to work with anyone.

Before the secret will work for you, you have to understand the concept of energy, and how every single thing, living or not, including the universe itself, is made from the same energy. For those who never studied this concept in school, you might want to do some research if you're having a hard time understanding or believing in this concept. Study up on the basics of quantum physics and theories. Find websites that teach the big picture of energy. Not equating what you learn to a god or your religion, at least initially, will help in this learning process. Open your mind up to new possibilities and you will be well on your way to understanding the most basic concepts of the secret.

Put these two together (constant positivity and embracing the concept that everything is ultimately the same energy), and only then will you be in the right frame of mind to start using the secret. It's not easy at first, but attaining the balance of wants and positivity will happen, and once you give in to a new way of thinking, things will happen quickly.

There's nothing wrong with wanting money to drop into your lap, but again, that's not the right frame of mind. You might remember Bob Proctor, one of the commentators in the movie The Secret. In The Secret, he says you attract everything that comes into your life, good or bad, by what you see and feel in your mind. Many people stop at that concept and wonder why the secret doesn't work. If you watch Proctor's older seminars, you quickly learn that you can't just sit on your couch wishing for good things to fall into your lap. You must work towards what you want.

Use the secret to ask for money or a new car, if that's what you want and be thankful as if you've already received it, but at the same time find a way to make money. Whether you're unemployed, disabled, or a stay at home mom with little time on your hands, there is always a way to work towards making even a little money. Look online for ways to work from home, use the internet for profit (blogs, ad revenue, etc.), or find a hobby that is profitable. But, whatever you choose to take on, you must be passionate about it, and you must feel like the endeavor will succeed beyond your expectations. You can't be lazy in thoughts or actions. Ask for money, find a way to work towards that goal, and it will happen. And yes, people who are truly in sync with the law of attraction can do less work than those who only think they get it, so doing your homework will pay off immensely.

So let's get off the topic of money and focus on another one that's at the top of many people's lists - health. The secret can be used to attain better health. Through my own personal experience with two chronic health problems, positive thinking and not just believing, but knowing your situation will improve, works. Set a health goal for yourself. My most recent goal had to do with relieving pain from my latest herniated disc. I had been in pain for ten days, and despite laying in bed in 7/10 pain with nothing but positive thoughts, the pain increased on a daily basis. It wasn't until I decided to take action, and practically begged my doctors to admit me to get the pain under control, that I began to feel the way I wanted.

My doctors admitted me overnight to get the pain under control. I was in the hospital for two days and the day after I got home, I was up and around. Not only was I up and around, I was moving without my walker or cane. I was only on my pain relievers for one day, and today I am almost pain-free; the exact point I wanted to get at, because I knew physical therapy wouldn't help until I could get to this point. I went from 7-9/10 on the pain scale to pain free in a matter of two days once I decided to take action. Never in my life have I experienced such a quick response to this kind of pain. Wishing for pain to go away doesn't work, and pills only mask the pain. Using the law of attraction to get the help I needed, made my pain go away almost instantly.

The last tip I will provide about successfully using the law of attraction is one I discovered on my own early on. You won't hear this in any law of attraction seminar, movie, or book and this may be why the secret was kept from so many for so long. When the secret finally works for you, do not, under any circumstances, brag about your success to anyone. Keep it to yourself and celebrate the success in your own head and be thankful in a quiet, warm and fuzzy type of manner.

The first time the secret worked for me, I decided to start out small. In the documentary The Secret, one of the commentators described how he used the law of attraction to find good parking spots, and since it seemed simple, I decided to give it a try.

Every morning, while dropping my girls off at school, I had to deal with what I called the circle of Hell. It was the drop off area in front of the school. Every morning it was crowded with rude drivers who wouldn't pull all the way up to let others in, entitled grannies who would cut in front of you almost dinging your car, etc. It was a nightmare, and every morning I drove to that school expecting everyone to act like a bunch of uncivilized troglodytes.

After hearing about that commentator's success with the parking spot, I tried it out on myself. As soon as I got in my car I visualized being the only car in the circle, having no traffic to deal with, and dropping my kids off with no hassle. As I started driving, and neared the school, I genuinely felt happy and relaxed, as if my wish was answered and there was nothing to worry about.

When I turned onto the road, two cars on opposite sides of the road had stopped and the drivers were holding a conversation. That was an unusual occurrence. I looked ahead and saw a car drive away from the school's circle. The two friends went on their way and when I drove up to the school, I was the only car in the circle. Nothing had changed other than using the secret to the fullest. I was on time, took the same route as usual, etc. That curb was always filled with cars and that day, I was the only car at the school. I was ecstatic, and knew the secret had worked because of how unusual the situation was.

I used this trick for the next three days, and each morning, I was the only car at the school. The third afternoon when my husband, who also practices the secret, came home, I couldn't hold it in any longer. I told him my story despite a nagging feeling that I shouldn't bring it up. He was excited that the secret had worked for me.

I felt proud and maybe deep down I was bragging, or maybe the desire to tell my husband about this little miracle came from a bad place in my heart. It's hard to explain what that nagging feeling felt like, but the next morning, I used the secret as I had the previous days, and it was back to the bad traffic. I firmly believe telling my husband in that excited manner sabotaged everything I had worked for. I decided to take a break and realign my attitude and thoughts.

I never got around to trying it again at the school's circle, but I felt I had learned why the secret was suppressed. It wasn't suppressed out of greed or saved for a higher class of people. It was suppressed because, if you go around bragging about your successes with the secret, it stops working, or doesn't work until your thoughts are genuine, positive, and come from a pure place.

Maybe people tried to keep the secret out of the wrong hands, but deep down I believe that you are born with the innate ability to access the law of attraction. People with that knowledge start using it at an early age and eventually, they befriend like minded individuals who just get it, and there is no real need to spread the word.

Once I learned about the law of attraction, certain events in my life started making sense. Throughout my life I had these certain wishes - ways I wanted to live my life, and after knowing what I wanted, I kind of let those thoughts go. I didn't let go in a negative way, I just had them, and let them go, knowing that those things and locations would make my happy. Eventually, I got everything I wanted and lived everywhere I had ever desired to live. The perfect man walked into my life and we had the kind of children that I always thought would be ideal when I was growing up. I worked in a field that I had always felt a passion for, but didn't originally see myself in. The list goes on and on. The secret works whether you believe in it or not.

If you get in the right mind-frame, you can start using the law of attraction today and you will start seeing immediate benefits and improvements in your life. It takes an open mind, patience, positive energy, good will, and hard work to get what you want out of life and the secret, but they will come. And don't worry; one positive thought outweighs a ton of previous negativity, so changes can start today.

Oh I wish this would work...it is soo hard to be postive when dealing with so much negative in life. I am so happy in my inner circle family and friends but find it difficult with the impossibility of the rest of the people I have to deal with. Thanks for article it was worth the read!
