How to Select and Organize Ringtones for Your Mobile Phone

Dee Dee Smith
Ringtones are very personal and representative of you. It's like choosing a personal logo or icon. That said, many companies and websites are now offering programs that allow for unlimited downloads of ringtones. Having access to unlimited ringtones allows one to personalize a ringtone for a group or even individuals in one's address book.

Oftentimes the unlimited ringtones available are polyphonic (that is midi files or something similar) and not actual audio recordings. Nonetheless, cell phone users can have lots of fun entertaining and exciting others with their ringtone selections. Following are a few suggestions:

Television Theme Ringtones

Choose ringtones associated with various television shows. These can be your favorite shows, or the favorite shows of those in your address book. If choosing your favorites, assign according to personality. For example, if your brother is a cop, give him a ringtone from the television show Bad Boys or NYPD Blue. To further tailor your ringtones, consider themes from a particular type of show like game shows or cartoons.

Sports Theme Ringtones

Assign ringtones that correlate with your caller's favorite sport or sports team. Some suggestions might be a team's fight song, a cheer (such as defense or basketball stomp), or theme music from a sports related television show such as Monday Night Football.

Ringtones Related to Location

Various songs have been written about cities. For example, callers from Memphis might have a ringtone of the song "Walking in Memphis". Similar assignments can be made for Las Vegas (Viva Las Vegas) or Philadelphia (Philadelphia Freedom). Ringtones can also be associated with states instead of cities (i.e. California Dreaming), or different regions/countries (i.e. America the Beautiful or O Canada).

Musical Theme Ringtones

Design your ringtone collection around your love of music. Create a theme around a certain genre of music such as classical, country or Latin. One might also include music from a particular era such as the 50's, Motown or disco.

One great thing about belonging to an unlimited ringtone program is that you can change up your themes often. Nonetheless, one needs to read the fine print and thoroughly research the company before joining any unlimited ringtone program.

On average, memberships fees are around $10 annually (that is minus any hidden fees), and members are allowed to send unlimited ringtones to one or more registered phones (depending upon the contract). Note that this can also result in additional fees if you do not have unlimited text/picture messaging.
