Choosing the type of Christmas tree is unique to each individual. There are so many choices to be had that it is nearly impossible to settle on just one. Before you head out in search of that perfect tree for your home, take a few moments to think about what type of tree you want and how much space you have for the tree.

Artificial Christmas Trees:

Artificial trees come in numerous shapes, styles and price ranges. There are even Christmas trees that are prewired with lights and can be multi-colored or focus on a single color. While the trees are typically a bit more expensive than live trees, they will last for a number of years and the overall costs will save you money of the life span of the artificial Christmas tree. The only downfall is missing out on the wonderful smell of a live Christmas tree.

Cut Live Christmas Trees:

Beginning in November, cut live Christmas tree lots will begin popping up across the nation. Christmas tree farms will harvest this year's crop and deliver them to your area. Selection depends upon popularity within the region. Pines and fir trees are the most popular, though you can find about anything. The prices are lower than artificial trees and you will not have to store the tree. Most cities have recycling centers where the trees can be chipped to use for landscaping after the end of Christmas.

Save a Life and Buy a Live Christmas Trees:

If you have room to plant the tree after Christmas, or know where you can donate a live tree, consider purchasing a live Christmas tree that has a root ball. Live Christmas trees are usually smaller overall than the cut trees and come in the same varieties as the cut Christmas trees. After Christmas is over, go out into your yard and dig a hole. Plant the Christmas tree and increase the value of your property as the Christmas tree will serve as a permanent reminder of your Christmas past.

An Unusual Christmas Tree Idea:

In the Southwest, tumbleweeds are spayed with artificial snow and decorated with small lights and tiny Christmas balls. Tumbleweeds can grow as much as 4 feet tall and spread about three feet across. You can also easily locate smaller tumbleweeds for a Southwestern Christmas tree décor.
