How to Sell Your Home Fast by Adding Curb Appeal

Quick Tips for Adding Curb Appeal to Your Home

Eric Thomas
You may have a beautiful home on the inside, but without the ability to attract buyers that want to see it, you're setting yourself up for a long wait on the market. How can you expect to sell a home to someone if you can't get them to stop and take a look at the interior? The truth is, many home buyers and Realtors pass right on by homes that don't look good from the outside. We're talking about curb appeal! One of the easiest and cheapest ways to add value is a cosmetic makeover for your home. Make it stand out and look inviting with these easy tips!

1. Flowers - Flowers are a very inexpensive and easy way to help attract buyers. Even by adding a few window boxes with planted flowers, you are helping to make your home inviting. Also, hanging plants on the porch and even planting a few around the landscaping can be a nice change in appearance. Keep in simple and don't opt for the more expensive flowers. Cheap ones will do just fine!

2. Wash Your Windows! - It sounds simple, but you'd be surprised how many homes have dirty windows that make the home look unclean on the inside. Sure, the dirt might be on the outside of the window, but how do people driving past know that? Do everything in your power to make those windows sparkle! If the windows are large or out of reach and hard to clean, hire a service to do it for you. It'll be worth it in the long run.

3. Fresh Exterior Paint - This is a bit more expensive to do, but when compared to the value and appeal you add to your home, it really isn't that bad. Sometimes, just a good power washing of the brick and/or siding will bring out the brightness and make the house appear as if it has a fresh coat of paint. Rent a power washer and get to work! You can't find out if you truly need a paint job until you wash it first.

4. Clean Walkways and Driveway - Oh, while you have that power washer rented, you might as well give your concrete walkways and driveway a quick wash. You can buy a gallon of concrete wash solvent (concentrate) for under $20, and it'll go a long way in freshening up the look of your sidewalks and drive. Plus, you'll get rid of those ugly oil spots and stains.

5. Clean up - Sometimes a general clean up is all you need to help unclutter the exterior of your home. Houses that have that clean, crisp look to them generally get the most walk through's. Because, if the exterior is nicely kept, then buyers can't wait to see what's inside. Get rid of the clutter, and attract more buyers!

6. Get Cuttin'! - Always, always, always keep your front yard nicely trimmed and clean cut. Grass, trees, bushes and shrubs should all be cut to the proper lengths. If you know ahead of time that you will be putting your house on the market, invest in some good lawn fertilizer. It will quickly give your grass a deep, rich green look to it. Also, spray on a little "magic growth" plant formula so that your shrubs and trees look vibrant and alive!

Hopefully, these tips can not only help you sell your home, but do it in a shorter amount of time. Because we all know the saying, "Time is money!". Good luck, and thanks for reading this article!
