1. Sympathise and empathise with the customer, don't be too pushy or smarmy, instead try to find out what the customer needs, likes and wants, and then sell this to them, make your product or service meets their requirements.
2. Don't prepare too much, don't practice a standard speech, or go onto sales mode as soon as you meet your client/customer. Nobody falls for these sales lines so don't waste your time. Instead ask open questions to gauge what they are looking for, when and why.
3. Never take no for an answer. Just because there decision is a No now, doesn't mean it will be a no in a month or weeks time.
4. Build a relationship/s with your potential customers and clients. Listen to them, and don't just go in for the hard sales approach, instead offer them or give them something of perceived high value to get them on your side and in your corner.
5. Don't be greedy. If you want to sell more and as a result make more money you mustn't be greedy, by this I mean you shouldn't try to make a sale just for the money, instead build up a good healthy, helpful and working relationship with potential clients and customers and then see the money start to come in.
6. Practice your negotiating skills, negotiating is a two way art and a skill that you can practice and get good at. The better you are at negotiating the more sales you will most likely make.
7. Always act and be trustworthy, reliable and real. People can see a fake or phony from a mile off and don't want to do business with them, so be as real as you can be to get more sales.
8. Start networking if you don't already do so. Networking is important and essential for building contacts, so get out there now and meet some new people and businesses, you never know-they could be your future clients or customers.
9. Always keep an eye on your competition and competitors, keep up on what they are doing and offering.
TOP TIP: Never blame other people for your mistakes. They key lesson to selling more is to learn lessons from your mistakes. So see making mistakes as a good valuable lesson not an excuse to blame someone other than yourself.
10. Don't tell rejection personally, remember that every no you get or receive is actually getting you that bit closer to a yes.
11. Never ask people can I help you, people really don't like this and it will normally end all contact you have with that potential customer or client.
12. Always sell benefits and not features, when selling, tell people how your product or service will benefit them and change their life.
