1. Make sure you site is quick to load up, easy to access and well designed. Nobody wants to visit a website or even buy from a website that looks amateurish. Build trust into your website, make it easy for people to navigate and find there way around.
2. KISS. Keep it simple silly. This applies to your website, your customer services policies, your terms and conditions, your payment methods and details and so on. Nobody wants to be swamped with technical jargon as soon as they hit your website so make sure its all in plain easy to understand language that your visitors will appreciate.
3. Don't flash. By this I mean fancy flash websites may be attractive and appealing the first time around but do people really want to be viewing the flash over and over again.
4. Make sure your terms and condition, policies and costs are easy to find and easy to understand. Once you have captured a sale you don't want to lose it because your customers couldn't understand how much something would cost and when they would receive it, so make everything clear and transparent.
5. Update your website, your information, your products, your services and content. Nobody pays any interest to out of date old hat websites so stay on top of the game by keeping your website fresh, be it on a daily basis or weekly basis.
6. Make sure you can be found. This is where SEO (Search engine optimisation) comes into play. Being found is half the battle when it comes to making or breaking a sale, SO make sure you can be searched, seen and found. Manually submit your website to search engines such as Google and the open directory.
7. Generate offline interest and awareness in and of your website. Just because you sell stuff online doesn't mean the offline world shouldn't know about it if you catchy my drift. Send out press releases to local media and press to help raise awareness and interest in what you are doing online.
