AT&T, like many cell phone service providers allows you to send email messages directly to any AT&T cell phone with basic internet or data access. The nice thing about this service is that you can use any laptop or computer with internet access to send emails to AT&T phones. If the phone has the ability to reply, the user can actually reply to your email right from their phone!
First you'll need to go online and log into your email service provider such as Yahoo!, MSN Hotmail, Gmail, or Microsoft Outlook for example.
Choose the option for "New Message" and wait for the blank email message page to load. On some services you'll instead need to click "Compose Message."
Enter the cell phone number of the phone you want to send an email to in the "To:" text box of the new email message. The number should be 10 digits in length. Directly after the 10 digit phone number add "@txt.att.net." When complete the "To:" field should be for example, 5555551234@txt.att.net .
Enter the message you want to send in the body of the email. Include a subject heading if you want. Remember that some phones can only handle small amounts of text since older phones will convert the email to a standard text message for the phone to display.
Send the message when finished and it will be delivered to the cell phone either as a data email message or as a text message. You may or may not get a reply depending on the person's phone capabilities.
Some things to keep in mind when using AT&T to send emails to AT&T phones:
- The person may be charged for either data or text messaging charges when receiving these emails. Keep the messages short to avoid having the system send out multiple texts to the person.
- Images and attached files may or may not be received or displayed properly. Links may also not function properly when embedded in the messages. Your best bet is to stick to basic text only messages to ensure your message comes across clear and readable.
