With two Symbian cell phone that connected to each other through Bluetooth, you can send instant messages to your friend immediately without any cost.

There are more and more phone service allows you to send instant message through Yahoo! Messenger or other messenger program. However, they often require you to pay monthly fee. Most of the cell phones have Bluetooth. If you only need to text message in short distance (in class, in meeting room...), you can use software that transfer instant messages through Bluetooth. IM+Bluetooth is a program that allows you to chat with up to five other persons.

You can download IM+Bluetooth here for only about 250 kB. After downloading the program, transfer and install it from your PC to your cellphone. To chat with each other, users have to activate Bluetooth and IM+Bluetooth program. Then, you can go to Menu>Update Contact List. The program will scan and find all the possible users and display their nicks in a list. Simply choose the nick you want to send instant message to and push "Write" to start texting message. This software also supports some smileys like any other instant messenger program.

To hide your nick, go to Menu>Bluetooth> Available/Connect or Offline/Disconnect. You can also go to Menu>Options>General Settings to change properties of some features:

1. Msg aleart volume: a small sound when you receive an instant message. Click "Change" to adjust the volume or set to mute mode.

2. Online alert volume: an alert sound when somebody on your list "online".

3. Font of the Contact: change our font on your list of nicks.

4. Font of the Dialogs: change the font size.

Besides, in Menu>Options>Settings, you have these features:

Nick: this is where you can change your nick. That will appear on other's list when you are online.

Update Contact List: Setup hotkeys for your to keep your list up-to-date.

Autoconnect: Turn the auto-update of your list on or off.

To exit from IM+Bluetooth, click Menu>Exit.

Now, without any cost, you can text message to your friend in a short distance (so that two phones can be connected through Bluetooth). As a student, I often used this one to communicate with my friends when I was in class or when I had detention. It proved to be very useful. You can also know who is close to you among the list of nicks.
