How to Use SEO to Get More Search Engine Traffic for Your Articles

I remember when I first started writing articles and doing research on the best way to have my articles get picked up by the search engines and read. That was when I first came across the term SEO. I had no idea what SEO meant or how I could use it to help my articles get read.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. What this means is that when you write an article and put key words into it, when the search engines are spidering through websites they will be able to locate your article more easily. This in turn will help your article show up in search results.

Now I'll bet you're wondering what a key word is. As an example let's say your article is titled, How Men Can Prevent Hair Loss, you might use the key words hair loss at least once in each paragraph in your article. The important thing to remember is not to go overboard with key words, you only need three or four key words, or phrases at the most. If you use more than that, readers and the spiders from search engines will be able to tell. Too many key words is a turn off to readers, and may make them stop reading your article before they even finish it. Also, there is a possibility that articles that have too many key words and little substance may be dismissed by search engine spiders.

This is all that is necessary for the beginning freelance writer to know about SEO and key words. If you keep in mind that you don't want to overdo it and instead simply insert your key words once or twice in a paragraph, you will have more success with getting listed with the search engines, and getting more readers.
