How Serious a Tornado Can Be

M Pears
Tornadoes are caused when the atmosphere is very unstable. The unstable atmosphere forms clouds and thunderstorms. Being that the atmosphere is so unstable this is the cause for the severe thunderstorms, which is called super cell thunderstorms. The super cell thunderstorms are the severe storms that are very wide spread that produces hail and forms tornadoes. Tornadoes are one of the most destructive forces of nature, because of all the energy and the force that it carries is all compact in a narrow tunnel, the energy and force that's combined in a small mass makes the force devastating to anybody or anything in it's path. Mixing together a warm front, cold front, warm moist air at a low altitude and cool dry air at higher altitudes is what I call the ingredients of a tornado. However theses are ingredients, but the different ways the ingredients are put together gives you different forms of tornadoes. You can get land spout tornadoes which are the more weaker ones that really don't have to much force behind it not to say that it want cause damage cause it can they are just more gusty they carry a ground portion not really connecting to the upper portion. Then you have the super cells tornadoes that you should leave or get in a safe place soon cause theses type are the most vicious ones, they are fully connected to the clouds above and all the way down to the ground it's the most dangerous. It will suck up anything that is in it's path. You have to be very careful with tornadoes and alot of times in the Rocky Mountain region of the country some types of tornadoes appear to be very transparent (clear), making them a little bit harder to see, until debris is sucked up in it and then it's noticeable to the eye. The waterspout tornadoes are those that form over the water but still could very well move to land and cause even more destruction.

It has never been predictable of just how long a tornado will last on the ground once it has developed. It just last as nature takes it's course and subside when it's done. Studies have shown them to last at many variety of times so at this moment their is nothing that predicts the length of a developed tornado. The time of the tornado hitting the ground varies as well and the width span also, some paths have been measured up to a mile wide others may be less it all varies. Try to always be aware of conditions during a severe thunderstorm, such as dark clouds, low clouds, hail and listen for any roars that may sound like a train is coming. So always respect tornado watches and warnings, cause even if you don't get caught in the path of a tornado you still do not want to be struck numerous times by falling hail. Hail in tornadoes can be as small as a golf ball or as big as a grapefruit, so watch out wouldn't want to be hit by a grapefruit size hail. So please use precaution and respect mother nature because you never know when nature will take it's course.
