How to Set Up Your College Dorm Room -- Buy the Right Appliances!

Susan300
School is back in. It is time to set up your dorm room. Here are some tips to help make your time away from home as comfortable as possible with all the right appliances.

Clock Radio ~
A clock radio is a two-in-one appliance that allows you the entertainment of being able to hear music, and at the same time functions as an alarm clock so that you don't miss those classes; (which is the real reason you came to school, right?) Dorm rooms are traditionally quite small, so getting two functions from the same appliance will conserve that valuable space.

Most of the newer clock radios also come with a 'sleep' feature, which allows you to set it to run the music for a certain period of time before automatically turning itself off. This is very convenient if you want to would like to fall asleep to music, but you don't want it to run all night disturbing people around you.

Mini Fridge ~
You will save yourself a bundle of time and money by keeping drinks and snacks in your dorm room. A miniature fridge doesn't take up much space and can double as a table as well. A mini fridge is just enough cold space to keep a few drinks cold, and keep a few refrigerated snacks or lunch items for those late night snacking sessions.

Microwave ~
The microwave is by far one of the best convenience items you can put in your dorm room. With this appliance, along with a few microwave-safe bowls or plates, you will be able to heat snacks and entrees in your room. This will save you the time and expense of going out; as well as allow you to make healthier food choices and avoid the dreaded 'freshman fifteen' weight gain.

Computer or Laptop ~
Since the reason you came to college is to study, you need a calm reliable place to sit down and do that studying. Set up your personal computer or laptop on a desk of its own. This is clearly your study area. Keep that area clear of anything that isn't study-related, so that your mind always has a clear transition between your study area and your sleep area.

Remember to coordinate with your roommate, so that you don't duplicate appliances that you don't need more than one of.

Have a Great School Year!
