How to Set Up an Easy Cleaning Routine

Kelly Fleming
Cleaning can be a very daunting task especially when there are unmotivated people in the house. No one wants to live in a dirty house, and no one wants to spend a lot of time to clean the house. It does help cleaning if there are more people sometimes. An example of this is it would be easier for the Family of two to clean up, as opposed to a Family of ten. Everyone that help to make the mess should be helping to clean it up.

Set up a Schedule

This is one of the most important things. My Family and I set a schedule for every Sunday, and this way we know who needs to do what around the house. In a Family of four I would go through and make a list of all of the chores that need to be done. Let everyone have a turn choosing the chores they want to do. Utilizing another piece of paper, right down the chores that need to be done under their names. If there are a couple of chores left over give it to the member with the fewest chores or divide up.

Make it Fun

Turn up the music, which will help it go by faster. Everyone is dancing while doing their chores. Having fun keeps their minds occupied with other things instead of chores. Make a competition out of it. For the winner; one less chore, and for the loser; one extra chore next week. Just make sure that the quality stays decent.

Reward

Have a Family night out, or a pizza and movie night. This makes it seem a little bit more rewarding plus you are getting that extra quality Family time. If you have smaller children maybe they would like some time in the park. Just determine what every member would appreciate, but make sure not to spoil. The older kids would most likely enjoy money so this could be part of their allowance. After doing this for awhile it will turn into a breeze. My Family and I usually complete these tasks in two hours or less. We stick to the same schedule every week, but it is a good idea to change things up a bit. Let everyone pick different chores every couple of weeks. No one really wants to get stuck cleaning the bathroom every single week.
