How Do I Set an Oregon Scientific Thermometer?

Erin Kilgour
The digital thermometers manufactured by Oregon Scientific allow one to read both
indoor and outdoor temperatures as these are equipped with a wireless sensor. Though
slightly complicated to set up initially, the thermometers are long lasting and quite
accurate. There are numerous models of Oregon Scientific thermometers and the set up
process of almost all types are alike

Things you will need:

1 . Oregon Scientific thermometer any model
2 . AAA batteries - 4 nos

Instructions

Setting up the Oregon Scientific Thermometer comes in two parts. You will need to set
up the main unit and the sensor individually. Preferably the sensors should be setup first

To set up the outdoor sensor

Step 1

Locate the battery placement area at the rear of the unit and open the door. Put in 2
batteries taking care to match the plus and minus signs on the battery compartment and
the batteries

Step 2

Reset with the "Reset" button located just above the compartment. Choose the desired
Channel (1, 2, 3), by pressing the Channel button also located above the battery door.
Close the compartment door.

To set up the main unit or the thermometer

Step 1

Locate the battery placement area at the rear of the unit and open the door. Put in 2
batteries taking care to match the plus and minus signs on the battery compartment and
the batteries

Step 2

Reset with the "Reset" button located just above the compartment. You can also select
temperature reading you wish to set - Celsius 'C' or Fahrenheit 'F' - by sliding the
switch adjacent to the reset button. Close the compartment door

Step 3

Just above the battery door is the "Channel" button which you will need to press
repeatedly to select the channel. This channel has to be the same as on the outdoor sensor.
The main unit generally auto-scans for the sensors and sets itself accordingly. You can
also set it up manually by canceling the auto-scan and repeatedly pressing the Channel
button to select.

Tips

Each main unit thermometer can sense up to 3 sensors and the channel on each
sensor should be set separately (1,2,3)

Warning

Avoid using rechargeable batteries. Opt for alkaline batteries in areas that have
winter temperatures below 10 degrees F and lithium battery if the temperatures go
below -22 degrees F.
The maximum range of the sensor from the main unit is 100 feet
