How to Set Up Outlook Express for a SBCGlobal.Net Email Account

Outlook Express is one of the main email tools used to pick up email. It's installed by default with Windows operating systems, but many SBC and AT&T users, think they have to be trapped reading their email on a web page. Well not any more. Allow this article to assist you in setting up your Outlook Express mail client to pick up your SBCGlobal.net email. This way you can easily download email automatically, and easily use stationary, signatures, attachments and so much more!

We will start setting up your SBCGlobal.net email account by opening Outlook Express, and clicking on the word "tools" then select accounts.

Click the word "Add" now enter in the name you wish to be displayed when you send email to friends, and click "Next". Now enter your sbcglobal.net email address and click "Next". For your Pop 3 server, type in pop.att.yahoo.com. For your SMTP server, type in smtp.att.yahoo.com and click "Next". For your account name type in your email address, and the password you use to access your email with, click "Next". Now click on "Finish".

That Outlook Express window you were working in will have disappeared and you will see the window titled "Internet Accounts" and in that, you should be on the mail tab. In that mail tab is the account you just added. Click on that account, then click properties. Select the "Advanced" tab. Under "Outgoing mail SMTP" type 465 and click the box that says "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)". Under "Incoming mail (pop3)" Tick the box that says "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" The number in the above box should automatically change to 995. If it doesn't, type it in. Then click "Apply" and then click "ok". In the next window click "Close".

If you aren't happy with the way your Outlook Express SBCGlobal.net email account is set up, simply click on tools and accounts again to go to where you added your email account. Click on the account, and click properties and edit such things as your reply email address, name of the account. You shouldn't have to change anything else in there under servers, connection, security or advanced tab. General tab is all you should need to edit. Be sure to press "Apply" and "ok" each time you change something.

AT&T and SBC email accounts in Outlook Express require a SSL connection. SSL means Secure Sockets Layer. It's a secure connection with your email. If by chance you set up your SBCGlobal.net email account incorrectly, you will automatically receive an email until your settings have been changed over to SSL connection. Or, it will refuse to pick up email all together.
