How to Set a Wedding Date

Jody Morse
There are many methods couples use to choose a wedding date. Your wedding date will affect the rest of your married lives, as you will be celebrating it for years to come! It's ideal to put careful consideration into the date that you decide on. Here are some practical and creative ways to set a wedding date.

Consider Your Anniversary as a Couple

Want to choose a meaningful wedding date? Be sure to consider the date that you first became an official couple. This can be a great way to ensure that you don't get the two anniversary dates mixed up when determining how long you've been together. It's also a very special date for you both already, so why not make it your official, long-term anniversary?

Come Up With a Unique Wedding Date

Are there any dates that just seem really cool to you? For example, you might like the idea of getting married on October 11th, 2012 (10/11/12). You might also consider combining your birthdays together. If your birthday is in June and your fiancé's birthday is in November, you could consider getting married on June 11th or November 6th. You can do the same thing by combining your favorite numbers. There are many ways to come up with a very unique wedding date!

Consider a Convenient Date for the Guests

If your guests are going to be traveling far for your special day, it's ideal to consider a date that will make taking time off of work or traveling more convenient for them. Holiday weekends, spring break, and winter break are all ideal options. If there are a lot of teachers in the family, the summer may be a more convenient option. Be sure to consider what everyone's schedule is like to ensure that they can spend your special day with you!

Have a Psychic or Astrologer Determine a Wedding Date

Do you consider yourself superstitious or a believer of fate and destiny? If so, you may want to consider having some analysis put into the date of your wedding. Consider having a psychic or astrologer determine what date will lead to the most successful marriage. This tradition is commonly used in Asia. Psychics and astrologers will generally use your birth dates and other aspects of your relationship to determine the perfect wedding date for you.

Of course, it's important to keep in mind that a wedding date isn't all that matters when planning your special day. Although you might have your heart set on a certain date for your wedding, there is a possibility that it may not be available at the venue that you are planning to hold your ceremony or reception at. Vowing to spend the rest of your life with that special someone is what's most important!

My husband and I got married in August. In a way I regret getting married during that month, as it is always so expensive to fly anywhere or stay in a hotel. If I could change the date, I would have chosen to get married earlier in the year, such as January.
