How to Setup Tethering on an Apple iPhone

A lot of people don't realize that it's possible to use a cell phone that has WiFi capabilities, such as an iPhone, and use it to share an internet connection with a laptop or desktop computer. This process of sharing an internet connection from a phone to a computer is called "tethering." Tethering can be very useful at certain times. Basically, anytime you're without internet and need to get your computer online. Once you know how to setup tethering on your iPhone you will never be without internet again.

After setting up tethering on your iPhone you will be able to share your iPhone internet connection with both Mac and PC desktops and laptops. You never know when you might be traveling on the road and need an internet connection. It can also be handy if your internet router or modem breaks or the conection from your ISP temporarily goes out. Knowing how to tether your iPhone is also a great way to impress your friends and family, especially if you're in a situation where one of them really needs it.

Step 1. Backup your iPhone.

Before you go any further, make sure you backup your iPhone just to be safe.

Step 2. Open Safari

Open up Safari web browser on your iPhone. Visit the following web address: http://help.benm.at.

Step 3. Go to the "Tethering and Internet Settings"

Scroll down to "Tethering and Internet Settings" and click on "Download."

Step 4. Chose your country.

Select the country you live in from the list provided.

Step 5. Chose your service.

Click on your cellular service provider.

Step 6. Install

Once on the "Install Profile" page, click on the "Install" button.

Step 7. Ignore the warning.

A window is going to pop up on your screen and warn you that the authenticity of the profile cannot be verified and that if you install it, it will change your iPhone settings. Just ignore this warning by clicking "Install Now." Don't worry, you're iPhone will be fine.

Step 9. Configure Tethering.

Now you need to configure tethering on your iPhone. To do this go to the "Settings" option then "General" then "Network." You should see a new option there called "Internet Tehtering." Click on that option. On the "Internet Tethering" page you should see on "on/off" slider. Slide it to the "On" position. You've now configured tethering on your iPhone.

Now that you have tethering configured on your iPhone you're ready to begin sharing your iPhone internet connection with any computer.
