How to Setup Webmail on Your iPad

TechTips
I bought my 32GB iPad to replace my laptop, it works for everything I do on a daily basis except for my word processing needs, and nothing can replace my Microsoft Office Word. The iPad does everything else I need or want, I can watch movies, listen to music, surf the web, and get all my e-mail. The Email was a little tricky though, I had to setup and configure my webmail so that I didn't constantly have to login to my hotmail account within the safari browser. Surprisingly the iPad makes it very simple to setup email with almost any webmail account you can imagine, even exchange if you have it. In this article I will walk you through the steps to setup and use an email account.

You could simply open the safari web browser and go to say Hotmail.com every time you wanted to access your hotmail email account on the iPad. But why would you want to have to constantly login and access your account when you can have it setup in real time; that way when you get a new message in your inbox the iPad will let you know. This makes access to your email instant and you don't have to constantly check if you have email, you will be alerted when you get email.

So to setup you iPad with your email account follow these steps:

1 - Click the Settings Icon
2 - Click Mail, Contacts, Calendars Option
3 - Click Add Account
4 - Click Other (unless your account type is listed)
5 - Click Add Mail Account
6 - Enter your Name (this will display on emails you send)
7 - Enter your email address (name@hotmail.com)
8 - Enter your password (this will be whatever you use to access the webmail account)
9 - Enter a description for your account
10 - Click Save button (top right corner)
11 - Press Home Button
12 - Click Mail Icon (It should populate with your most recent email)

Once you have completed the above steps you should have your email setup on your iPad. You should be able to view, send and receive email using your webmail through you iPad. This makes it very easy to get your email while you are using you iPad, also any new email that comes into your account will give you a notification. Now you have instant access to all of your email, no more logging into a website every few hours to see if you have new mail.

I hope this guide helps you to setup your webmail on your iPad. Keep in mind I used Hotmail as my setup email address, but you can setup nearly any online email account to your iPad. You can even setup exchange to your iPad if you have all of the information needed.
