How to Sew a Lace and Pearl Wedding Veil for Under $10

Pam Parent
The lace and pearl wedding veil will make the bride look like a million dollars, and it cost under $10 to make. Purchase supplies needed to make the veil from Walmart or any discount craft supply store. A person only needs to know the basic sewing stitches to make this veil. If you don't want to use lace, you can choose tulle, or any wedding fabric to make this veil. The veil attaches to the back part of the head, and the pearls drape across the front of the bride's head for a stunning look. A bride could attach florals, feathers or faux diamond beads to the pearls for an added touch of elegance.

Lace and Pearl Wedding Veil

Supplies:

36" x 36" piece of white or ivory lace
Scissors
Barrette
2 yards of white or ivory pearls
Tape measure
Thread and needle
Iron

Directions:

1. Lay the piece of lace out on a flat surface. If the lace piece is wrinkled, carefully iron. Place a slightly damp towel on top of the lace to protect it. Then gently run a warm iron across the towel. This should safely remove all wrinkles.

2. Fold the top of the lace piece down approximately 8 inches. This will be the wide hem of the veil. Sew across the hem where the top meets the single layer of lace. When you get to the end of the hem, wrap thread around the end stitch a few times for added security. Cut thread.

3. Accordion fold the top, front hem of the bridal veil that was just made. You could also carefully gather the top hem of the veil from where it was sewn.

4. Wrap the beginning end of the string of pearls tightly around the gathered piece of the veil. Sew this string of pearls to the gathered part of the wedding veil. The rest of the beads will be draped to the front of the veil.

5. Measure around the top part of the bride's head. Drape remaining pearls approximately 4 inches longer than the measurement of the bride's head around the gathered part of the veil. Add an additional 4 inches to this number for the second row of pearls being draped. Cut off excess pearls. Secure the pearls to the veil by sewing the draped string of pearls to each side of the veil, and the end part of the pearl string to the back of the veil. The draped pearls on the front will lay across the front of the bride's hair or forehead.

6. Place the barrette top side down on the center of the first row of pearls that was wrapped around the gathered part of the wedding veil. Open the barrette clasp. Sew each end of the barrette to the pearls.

7. Attach the veil to the back of the bride's head.
