You will be sewing in a zipper, but the skill level for this simple Valentine's Day wristlet craft is very easy.
To Make an Unlined Heart Wristlet You Will Need:
Fabric
8 Inch Zipper
Sewing Machine
Zipper
Scissors
Chalk
Paper
To get started you want to cut out a square of fabric to 8 inches by 8 inches. Fold this in half and cu tout a heart shape. This is the pattern for your heart wristlet.
Tip: When drawing and cutting this heart out you want to make sure the two sides that lead to the point on the bottom are straight. This needs to be the basic heart shape. Your zipper will be on one side, so you need a straight area.
Cut 2 hearts out of your exterior fabric.
Tip: Use a heavy weight fabric like canvas. If you want to use a light weight fabric, then iron in some fusible interfacing onto yoru thinner fabric.
Now, lay one heart face up on the tape. Turn it so one of the long straight sides that run down to the point is the top.
Lay your zipper face down on the fabric. Line the top edges up and center it left to right on the heart. Pin in place and sew this line.
Lay the second heart fabric for the wristlet pattern face up on the table. Place the other side of the same zipper face down on the fabric in the same manner.
Pin in place and sew down.
To make the handle cut a length of sturdy ribbon about 10 inches long. Fold in half.
Unzip the zipper half way. Pin all the sides of the hearts together. Clip the ribbon handle inside so the rough ends stick out where you can see them about an inch. This should be placed near the top hump of the heart on the side where the zipper on the wristlet pattern closes.
Sew this seam. Trim any threads and turn inside out.
Tip: You can sew over the ribbon handle on the heart wristlet pattern couple times to make sure it never rips out no matter what you put in the wristlet.
Turn the heart wristlet inside out and you are finshed!
Tip: You can also sew on appliqués and buttons while the hearts are separate.
