How to Shop & Cook for a Large Family With a Limited Budget

I was raised with four brothers and I have learned a lot of things over the years such as how my mother would prepare & shop for food on a budget. Here are a few things she would do.

Budget & Save: This is done by saving any coupons in magazines, newspapers, or store fliers. The more you save on your budget the more food you will be able to purchase in the long run.

Buy In Bulks: When you buy in bulk you save tremendous amounts of money. I highly recommend getting a membership at such places as the Sam's Club. Using these kinds of stores you can save quite a bit of money in bulk purchases. Things you should buy in bulk should be anything from Can Food, Soft Drinks, Meats, or dried food.

Freeze: Meats can be saved & froze for months even years at a time & still be good. This comes in handy when you have a big family & you buy in bulk when prices are cheap. This works will with any kind of meat & fish. I am not sure on exactly what vegetables & fruits you can use with this method always consult a professional on how long you can freeze something just to be sure!

Plan for Meals: Being un-organized & not planning for big meals can be a disaster in the works. I highly recommend making meals that are easy such as Chili, Tacos, Spaghetti, Meat Loaf, Hamburgers or even Chili Dogs. Most Mexican dishes are very cheap & cost little to make huge amounts of. Keep a list & make sure the kids or family do not get into the things you need to make each dish.

Lunches & Snacks: These are needed so you can make sure you have everything you need for your large meals. Always keep plenty of sandwich meat, hot dogs, or even Roman Noodles those go a long way having a large family. Snacks can range from Chips, Vegetables, Fruit, or even a peanut butter sandwich. Let your family know what is for meals or what they can use for snacks or lunches. One easy way is to make a list of all the things you need for meals & make sure it's listed on your fridge.

Side Note: I guess the big secret is no secret at all. You just need to Budget, Buy In Bulk, Freeze, Plan for meals, & have Lunch foods & snacks at hand.
