How to Shop for Perfect Prom Dresses 2010

Joyce Hewitt
Spring 2010 prom dresses promise to bring wild patterns, bright colors, and plenty of fun! Now is the time to start shopping for your prom dress in order to secure the perfect dress for a night to remember. There are a couple of things to keep in mind before you go prom dress shopping. Style, color, and personality are key to finding the dress that you will look your best in.

First you want to decide on the style dress you want. Do you want a trendy, short, flowing, flirty, fun, or simple dress? If your going for the trendy look, patterns are your best choice. If your feeling even more adventurous aim for an animal print pattern. A good deciding factor when looking at different styles is your body type. Look for dresses that will be flattering on your body. Are you petite, slim, pear-shaped, apple-shaped, or do you have the perfect hour glass figure? Different style dresses fit different figures, so in order to look your absolute best, try picking a style that matches your body type. If your not sure what your body type is, you can check on websites that sell prom dresses, or ask advice from a retail sales associate.

Next its time to decide on a color. Think about what colors look good with your skin tone. Do you have warm or cool undertones? Do your friends always compliment you when you wear a particular color? Does your boyfriend, or crush have a favorite color? Whats your favorite color? Your prom night only happens once, and you want it to be perfect even down to the color of your dress. Some of the color trends for 2010 are Juicy tones like lime green, lemon yellow, and orange. Not looking to make such a bold statement? Metallic golds, silvers, and copper tones will also be popular in 2010.

Last but not least, your personality should play a part when finally making your choice on your dream dress. If your going to prom with your long time high school sweet heart, a sophisticated, elegant gown in silver, or white will make you look like the goddess of love. Maybe your going to prom with your crush? Picking something a little more on the risky side could show that your adventurous. Try an off the shoulder strap, or a striking print. You'll be sure to keep his attention the whole night. Is your prom going to be just one big girls night out for you? If you decided to go to prom with a group of friends, rather then a date aim for flirty short dresses in bright colors like bright pink, deep purple, or turquoise. Check out designers like Sherri Hill, Mori Lee, and Scala.

Now that you have an idea of what you want kind of prom dress you want, time to go shopping!
