How to Show Hidden Files in Windows Me and Windows 2000

A Guide to Viewing Hidden Files on Your Windows System

The Windows ME and Windows 2000 operating systems keep some hidden files and hidden folders. The hidden files are usually system files and user preferences. Follow these steps to configure your Windows ME or Windows 2000 computer to enable viewing of all the hidden files and folders.

Viewing Hidden Files in Windows ME
1. Minimize all the programs you have open to access your desktop. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. This will open the My Computer dialogue window.
2. Click on Tools at the top of the dialogue window, and select Folder Options from the drop-down menu.
3. Click on the View tab in the Folder Options window that opens.
4. Go to the Hidden files and folders section.

  • Select on the radio button that reads: Show hidden files and folders.
  • Un-check the checkbox for the option that reads: Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Un-check the checkbox for the option that reads: Hide protected operating system files.
5. Click the Apply button. Click on OK and then close the My Computer window.
6. This configures your Windows ME or Windows 2000 computer to enable viewing of all the hidden files and folders.

1. Minimize all the programs you have open to access your desktop. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. This will open the My Computer dialogue window.
2. Click on Tools at the top of the dialogue window, and select Folder Options from the drop-down menu.

4. Go to the Hidden files and folders section.

    How do you find the folders on a laptop?
    Laptops don't have "my computer" on them

    I have uninstalled microsoft word several times...
