How to Make a Simple Face Painting Design in Seconds

Rashel Dan
Face painting is getting more and more popular among event planners and in special events. If you'd like to create a simple face painting design one of these days, it doesn't have to be a daunting task-there are easy ways to start the fun activity. This article will show you how to prepare, what to do while face painting and what tools to use to make a simple face painting design easy and hassle-free.

Preparation techniques:

Before creating a simple face painting design, make sure the person you're working with is comfortable and properly seated to avoid movement later on. Place a dry towel around the shoulders to prevent staining. Make sure that your model's hair doesn't get in the way (try using a headband). Before starting, always clean the skin with a damp towel, tissue paper or cotton so that oil, dirt or grease doesn't interfere with the paint you'll be using later. Cleaning helps paint adhere better to the skin.

Painting techniques:

To start painting on your simple face painting design, apply a base color using a sponge. Make the first coat of paint a lighter color, so that you can easily place a dark color over it as a second layer and then an even darker color for your third layer. When slightly dry, you can now apply some detail work. Drying in between layering will help prevent your colors smudging. Use bolder or darker colors with a brush so the details stand out from the background. Try sweeping with longer strokes if you don't want results to be feathery. When painting on the lower or upper eyelids, ask your model to look up or down as long as the area you are working on is slightly stretched.

Tools for simple face painting design:

1. Flat and round brushes - flat brushes can be used for fine detailing such as when creating whiskers. Use round brushes for a variety of details like flower petals and Dalmatian spots.

2. Sponges - when painting on a base or wide area, using a sponge can save you time and give you an evenly covered surface. Sponges can also help you blend colors more easily.

3. Fake blood - use fake blood for a more realistic effect. Paint tends to look superficial and may not look good as blood.

4. Glitter and body jewels - adding glitter to a simple face painting design will transform simplicity into versatility in seconds.

5. Cosmetics - eyeliner or blush can give dramatic effects without the difficulty.

6. Stencils - using stencils is a convenient way to make a simple face painting design that is fast and accurate at the same time. You can either purchase stencils or print out stencil outlines and cut them out yourself.

To make a simple face painting design in a breeze, all it takes is to follow basic techniques before jumping into face painting. You can now face paint with confidence and without having to worry too much about mistakes or how much time one session might take.
