How to Make a Simple yet Delicious Salsa

Right in Your Own Kitchen

Jessica Rowe
Salsa and chips are a favorite snack for many people, and can be found in many homes. There are a bunch of different types of salsas that can be found at the grocery store including, chipotle style, spicy and mango salsa. One of the best types of salsa though, is the type you make yourself. No salsa taste better than salsa made from fresh ingredients right there in your own kitchen. Here is a simple, yet delicious salsa recipe that I make in my own kitchen. It is not hard, there is nothing fancy about it and only takes about 45 minutes start to finish.

What you will need

6 Roman Tomatoes
4 Jalapeño
2 Waxed Green Chili
4 Green Onions
1 Small White Onion
3-4 Cloves of Garlic
½ Cup Cilantro
1 Teaspoon Salt

Big Bowl
Sharp Knife
Garlic Press
Cutting Board

I do not chop everything up and put them into separate bowls, you can if you want, but I just throw it all into a bowl and mix it after every ingredient, to make sure it looks good.

When making my salsa I like to start with the Roman tomatoes. Using a sharp knife a cut them into small cubes. The size you cut your ingredients is up to you, I personally do not care for tomatoes so cut them very small.

Next, chop up the jalapeno and waxed green chili. The seeds in the jalapeno and chili are spicy, so if you do not want hot salsa, do not use many seeds, if you want it hot, then throw them all in.

The green onion comes next. I only use about ¾ of each onion, from the roots up. Cutting the white onion is always the worst for me, I cry every time and I have tried all the watery eyes and onion tricks, nothing works. I like a lot of onion, and will use a whole small one or half a large. I chop the onion into small cubes and no don forget to use the center of the onion, that part hold a lot of flavor.

Garlic is a must have in my household and in everything I make. I peel and with a garlic press, press three or four large cloves of Garlic into the bowl. Be sure to use what is left in the press, just scrape it out and mix it in. Cutting up cilantro with a knife has always been an issue with me, so I rip it up into small pieces and add them to the mix. Finally add about 1 teaspoon to the bowl and mix it in.

Just stir it enough to mix everything up, stirring to much will cause the tomatoes to squish and then you get to much juice.

When I can get them I also add a few habanera peppers, chopped very small. Habanera are very hot peppers, sample a bite of your salsa before adding a bunch of this.

So there it is a simple yet delicious salsa that you can make at home, with little mess and little cost.

Now, grab a bag of Tostitos, your bowl of salsa and enjoy.
