Holiday dinner preparation can take hours. For those who love to bake, it can take days. As seniors age, holiday dinners become a difficult and stressful undertaking. Here are five tips that will help to make your loved ones holiday dinner easier.

1) Have a pot luck dinner. If a large number of extended family members and friends are invited, make a list of dishes for the dinner. Let dinner guests sign up for a dish or two that they will bring to the holiday dinner. It might be easier to cook deserts and the turkey or ham at the dinner site. That way , guests can simply bring the side dishes.

2) Convince your elderly parents that they do not have to set the table with the silver and china. Pretty and disposable paper plates with holiday decorations can be purchased. One can even find matching cups and napkins. They don't have to be expensive. Some dollar stores carry holiday paper products.

3) Save your elderly parents having to cook the turkey and the desert. Simply order it the day before and heat it up. After all, everyone knows a heated turkey or ham seems to taste better.

4) Think simpler meals. Putting on a huge holiday dinner spread may be a waste, with leftovers of the least favorite dishes. Simplify the dinner by having an entree, a couple of sides, bread and a desert. Who says holiday dinner includes multiples dishes and deserts anyway?

5) The simplest thing to do is order the entire dinner. Many super markets, and restaurants offer an entire holiday dinner package. All that needs to be done is to heat up the dinner when time to eat.

Holiday dinners do not have to be stressful for our seniors. By implementing a few simple steps, their dinner can be stress free.
