How to Skateboard Better in 7 Steps

The Informer
Have the mindset
You can't skate well unless you're dedicated. Skating has to be something you love to do, not something you do to look cool. If you don't really care about skating, then there's no point in doing it. Once you are pas that, your attitude shouldn't be a competitive "I'm the best" attitude. Focus on improving your skills while having fun. That's what skating is about.

Get the gear
It's a lot harder to skate on your Wal-Mart board in sandals. Make sure you have the right gear, but don't rely on it to carry you home. Skating is about the effort you put into it. If you can't get your hands on skate shoes, use sneakers. Get a decent board and wheels. At this point, the quality of your trucks doesn't really matter.

Take the Time
Don't get upset if you don't learn your tricks on your first try. Learning tricks takes time, which makes finally getting them on lock all the more rewarding. You won't be able to skate well unless you put time into it.

Skate with Friends
Skate with other friends that also skate. This will make you work harder to show off, even if it's not consciously. Skating in a good environment will increase your performance.

Know your tricks
Nobody likes someone who doesn't know the difference between frontside and backside. If someone sees you all excited after landing a shove it saying, I finally got my frontside 360 shoves down! That's like, 200 points in EA Skate!!" they'll laugh and label you a "poser." It's not easy to get better as a skater without the support of your peers.

Make use of the World Wide Web
The internet can help you so much when it comes to skating. There are literally hundreds of thousands of trick tip videos on the web. To get started, just search the trick you're trying to learn followed by "trick tip" on Youtube and you'll get loads of videos made to help you learn those 360 frontside shove its from Number 5.

Be Careful
It's not easy to skate with a broken foot. Don't go from kickflips on flat ground to blackside one-eightying an 8-set. Wear a helmet if you are scared about getting brain damage, but if you're skating in your driveway, you don't need one.

If you follow these 7 steps, there is no doubt you'll increase in skill as a skater.

Good advice. We need some good weather around here before anyone can get out their skateboard, though. I love the X-Games!
