How to Make a Slashed Shirt

Slashed shirts are very fetching, yet current and have become an amazingly modern fashion vogue. Despite the fact that they are visibly striking and avant-garde, slashed shirts are one of the hautest additions to only the preeminent designer couture.

One day while flipping through a Victoria's Secret catalog, I noticed a very trendy, yet modish ensemble which consisted of a model wearing faded blue jeans and a slashed shirt. I was so exceedingly impressed with the shirt, but when I saw the price tag, I was rather indisposed. $70 for a shirt is really steep that simply looks like a shirt that has been cut in several places.

It was then, that I realized, I can make this, which is exactly what I am going to do today. Let's get started!

What you will need includes:

-T-Shirt
-Scissors

The shirt is going to need to lay flat on a hard surface, so it is best to have a nice, fat, area to work from. I am going to use my kitchen table to do this because I am here right now and this area fits the profile. You want to also make sure there is nothing around your area, as this makes working a lot easier both said and both done.

As you continue, you want to prepare your shirt. Any shirt will do, however; it is best to use a shirt that you don't wear often or is on the cheaper side to start. Once you have mastered the art of slashing shirts, then I would recommend using a shirt that costs a little more. I want my shirt to be au courant, yet trendy and sexy. I am going to use a regular, plain, black cotton t-shirt in a size extra small. I am usually a medium, but I want my shirt to be chic, yet sexy. I bought this plain black t-shirt second hand a while ago, so I am going to use this t-shirt.

Make sure that when you choose scissors, you go with a pair that can cut through a majority of fabrics. You don't want to use a thick scissors. I have a pair of surgical scissors that I like to use. I know not everyone has access to surgical scissors, so I am going to recommend that you use sewing scissors, as they are sufficient enough to cut through a shirt.

There are several ways of slashing shirts. You can do them vertical, horizontal, clock wise, etc. Today, I am going to do a simple horizontal slash. You want to begin by cutting small horizontal lines across the shirt. You want to make sure that the lines are parallel to one another, but also fairly separated. You want at least 2 inches in between the cuts. Keep in mind, you can add more cuts later on.

If you want your shirt to have two dimensions, you can go half away across the shirt and stop, leaving at least 4 inches in the middle of the shirt. For my slashed shirt, using my scissors, I am going to go the entire way across the shirt, leaving nothing in the center area of the shirt.

Once you have continued this, it is entirely optional and up to you if you want to take the cuts you created and stretch them out. I have tried this before and I do not like it, so I am going to refrain from doing this. I think it stretches the cuts out way too much and the slashed shirts look overly slashed.

I am going to begin by lowering the neckline of the shirt by trimming that section of the shirt. The neckline can be round, it can be square, it can be v-shaped, etc. Whatever you want it to be. Today, I am going to take my scissors and trim that section of the shirt in a shape of the v, as I find the v-neck to be the most appropriate.

The sleeves make the shirt interesting. After contemplating and debating whether or not I want to make my slashed shirt sleeveless, I have decided that I am going to keep them at the current length they are. Instead, I am going to take my scissors once again and just cut up towards the center. This will make the sleeves of my slashed shirt split, yet open. When (and if) you do this, it is important to stop once you get up towards the neckline. I am going to do this on the top, as well as, bottom. There should be about 4 open pieces per sleeve.
