2) Sorry alcohol - Drinking alcohol may make you feel sleepy, but it actually prevents you from failing into a deep rest.
3) Watch Caffeine - Avoid coffee, tea, soda, chocolate, and some pain relievers at least two hours before bed.
4) No Smoking - Dont smoke. Smokers tend to sleep lightly. They have reduced amounts of REM sleep. And often wake after three to four hours because of nicotine withdrawal.
5) Exercise - Any sort of good physical activity or exercise during the day helps you sleep better at night. Just dont work out close to bedtime, because you cant sleep during an adrenaline rush.
6) Avoid overeating - Do not sleep on a full or empty tummy. Try a light snack such as crackers or decaf herbal tea before.
7) Easy clothes - Wear loose cotton clothes to bed. They may not be the sexiest, but comfort is key.
8) Room temperature - Keep your bedroom cool. You can choose a temperature close to 70 degrees that feels cool to you.
9) Dark and quiet room - Always keep your bedroom dark and quiet. This means you should also avoid TV in your bedroom. If you need some kind of noise, try a fan.
10) Relax your mind - Relax and clear your mind for 15-20 minutes before going to bed. You can read a novel, do a crossword puzzle, or even pamper yourself with a shower. Dealing with laundry, bills or dishes before lying down is not conducive to sleep.
