How to Make a Slip Knot

J A Roark
When you start to crochet or knit, you will start by making a simple slip knot. The following are steps to making the perfect slip knot.

First, you will need to place your ball of yarn on your right and the tail of the yarn on your left. This has to go in this order otherwise your slip knot will not work properly.

Second, Pick up the tail end of the yarn in your left hand. Wrap the yarn around your first two fingers one time to create a loop. At this point, you will take the tail end of the yarn and cross it over the ball side placing this piece behind fingers.

Then, you will grasp the ball end of the yarn and place it in front of the tail end and place it between your first and second finger. Make sure that your strings are not too loose or too tight.

Next, carefully grasp the tail end and carefully pull away from your fingers. This will cause the loop to slide off your fingers leaving behind a slip knot.

To test to be sure you have a true slip knot. You will want to place your crocheting hook in the loop. Pulling on the ball side will cause the loop to tighten. While pulling on the tail side will cause the loop to loosen. Tying a slip knot is very simple to do. It may take a little practice, but you will get it in no time.
