The basics of smoking are pretty simple. In order to avoid cancer, there is a certain way to smoke. You take the cigarette and smash it on the ground. If that is not how you want to smoke, then you are probably out of luck on the whole cancer thing. To smoke a cigarette, place the cigarette in the hand and hold it with your index and middle fingers. Obviously, the butt of the cigarette will be facing the palm of your hand. Place the cigarette into your mouth, making sure not to put too much moisture onto the butt.
Here comes the fun part. After you have brought that cancer stick to your mouth, you get to light the thing. As long as it is not raining or excessively windy, you should have no trouble lighting the cigarette. Grab a nice lighter and place it towards the end of the cigarette, breathe in, and take a puff of your cigarette. Repeat this a couple of times until the cigarette is lit.
Much of smoking involves the experience of it. You can not simply smoke the cigarette without taking it all in. Use all of your senses to take into account the good things of the cigarette. Each and every time you take a drag on the cigarette, take into account the situation around you.
For first-time smokers, there will be an intense burning associated with that first cigarette. You might also experience some choking, as well. You might not be prepared for the awful taste, but afterwards you will recognize it. As you begin to smoke more and more, you will quit having those nasty tastes and feelings when you smoke.
While you are smoking, be sure to continually inhale and exhale. As you do this, you will notice that the ashes are building on the end of the cigarette. Flick the cigarette to make sure the ash goes off. When the cigarette is done, step on it or put it out in an ashtray to stop the flame.
You should also be ready for a terrible dizzy sensation if you have never smoked before. Some people compare this to a small drunken buzz. Nicotine has that effect on your system as it first enters into the bloodstream. Do not be surprised if you begin to feel sick when you smoke for the first time. This reaction is a natural thing, and comes from the body's automatic adjustment to the poison-like substance coming into the system. Over time, you will not experience this buzz because your body will adjust itself to accommodate the nicotine.
Smoking comes with some pretty substantial costs. You are not alone, but you might feel like an outcast at times. Many folks look upon smokers as if they have some sort of disease. Your habit will not be welcome in most folks' homes and many restaurants will send you outside to smoke. If smoking makes you happy, do not let these things stop you, though.
