One of the transactions that are directly deposited into your checking account could be social security. How do you have your social security check transferred to another bank? The first thing you will need to do is get the routing number and checking account number for the new bank account. Next call the social security administration office and give them the new checking account information.
If you are planning on closing the old checking account don't do it until your social security payment has been deposited into the new account. Every so often there can be a delay with having the money transferred to the new checking account. If there is a delay and you have closed out the old checking account then your social security check will be sent back to the social security administration office. You could be in for a major delay. It may now take two additional weeks before you receive your check and if you have bills you need to pay at the first of the month they may not be paid on time.
Once you have your social security direct deposit transferred over you may want to take care of your other transactions such as mortgage payments, auto loan payments and any other transactions that are handled automatically.
This can be time consuming depending upon how many accounts you have to switch over but if you are experiencing some problems with your current checking account or your current bank then it may well be worth the time and effort to get it all resolved.
To contact social security you can call 1-800-772-1213. The best time to call social security is going to be after the 10th of the month. During the first part of the month they are likely to be swamped with a number of calls and it will be hard to get through. Most banking and other transactions normally take place at the first of the month.
People will sometimes transfer from one bank to another for a number of reasons. Perhaps you will not incur as many fees or the bank may have more automated teller machines, (ATM), which can be quite a convenience.
There will be situations when you have some unauthorized charges on your account and after you have taken the necessary security steps such as disputing the charges, the account then needs to be closed.
