Children tend to drink more sweetened beverages today than a decade ago. When they consume these sugary beverages, they also tend to take in more calories each day. It is believed that the insulin rises when somebody drinks a soda or another sweetened soft drink. This, in turn, makes him hungrier. As a result, he eats more.
Sodas tend to go hand-in-hand with fast food. When somebody orders a fatty cheeseburger, greasy fries, more likely than not, he will also have a soda to go with his meal. Since many families have parents who both work, a fast food restaurant is a convenient option for meals. This is one of the reasons why obesity is the highest among teenagers. While in this case fast foods are the main cause of obesity, soft drinks get the blame also.
The amount of soft drinks an individual consumes has a link to his weight. But individuals mistakenly believe that just by switching to a diet soda, their weight problems would be over. However, it is just the opposite. Artificial sweeteners also tend to be related to weight gain. "Rats who were fed saccharin-sweetened yogurt ... consumed more calories, gained more weight and more body fat, and did not compensate by cutting back" (Wikipedia.org).
While the consumption of sugary soft drinks tends to lead to obesity, it does not mean that you have to totally eliminate them from you diet. Since consuming too much soda leads to weight gain, set a limit on how much to drink each day. For example, if you drink two twenty ounce bottles a day, cut back to one. As already stated, reducing the amount of soda you consume helps reduce your body mass index. Even if you are a working parent, avoid fast food restaurants; only go to one once a month. There are many simple and healthy recipes in this world. All that needs to be done is to prepare them ahead of time and keep in the freezer. On a day that you are too busy to prepare a meal, take one of the meals from the freezer and cook it in the microwave. Finally, just because you drink diet soft drinks, it does not mean that you will lose weight. If you are looking to lose weight, drinking diet soda is an excellent idea. However, you must reduce the amount of calories you consume each day. A diet soda does not cancel out the calories of that piece of cake that you just ate.
