How to get soft lips.

Our lips have no glands to help keep them moisturised so they tend to become dry and chapped very quickly. Many different things can dry our lips out; weather, air conditioning, heating and even some of the beauty products we use.

There are some things that you can do to help prevent your lips getting dry and keep them looking beautiful.

Drink plenty of water, this will help to keep your skin and your lips hydrated and avoid the dreaded cracking and flaking.

Avoid long lasting lipsticks; these are notorious for drying lips out, even the ones that come with glosses will make your lips dry and cracked.

Use a nourishing lip balm before you leave the house no matter what the weather. This will help to protect your lips from the elements. Try to pick a lip balm that contains SPF's aswell.

It's okay to use petroleum jelly on your lips, but not everyday, if you use it everyday, your lips will come to rely on its barrier and without it your lips will become drier and more chapped.

Use a soft toothbrush and a generous helping of lip balm to gently exfoliate your lips, this will help stimulate the circulation and remove any dead skin cells, making your lips softer and plumper.

Look for products that contain vitamin E, these are intensely moisturising, also ingredients such as shea butter and cocoa butter will also help to give your lips much needed moisture.

Whitening toothpastes are prime suspects for drying out lips, the bicarbonate of soda is too harsh for some peoples lips.

If you suffer with dry cracked lips, avoid lip balms that contain menthol, they will sting your lips like crazy!

Lip glosses contain ingredients that moisturise lips and add shine, try wearing a small amount of lipgloss everyday, it will also help to protect your lips from the elements by creating a barrier.

Make sure your diet contains plenty of vitamin C, this is essential for skin healing.

Great advice. I live in Chicago and the winters are very problematic for dry lips.
