One: You have heard the old saying of "an apple a day, keeps the doctor away." This may have some truth to it, at least when thinking in terms of your skin. If you eat the daily recommended amounts of fruit, especially those high in water content, such as apples, you are helping your skin to remain hydrated and thus to combat dryness. Other fruits such as bananas, grapes, peaches, apricots, plums, etc. are also excellent sources of moisture for your body and skin.
Two: Drink plenty of water. Water provides a multitude of goodness, including keeping skin in good health.
Three: Use a cleaner specially formulated for dry skin, such as a cleansing bar with oatmeal in it. Traditional soaps are notorious for drying out your skin.
Four: Use a light exfoliant once a week or so to rid your skin of dead cells. This will help moisturizer to penetrate. Just be careful not to over scrub, which can cause the opposite effect from what you are looking for.
Five: Moisturize your skin immediately after you shower to lock in moisture.
Six: Take showers rather than baths. Bathing can rob your skin of moisture and allow dryness to set in. Also be sure to dry off immediately as when you allow water to evaporate, it takes precious moisture with it.
Seven: Avoid products that have fragrance or alcohol added to them as they tend to dry skin out. This includes perfumes, soaps, powders, lotions, moisturizers, sunscreens, body rubs, and the like.
Eight: Try to avoid caffeinated drinks that can rob your body and skin of moisture.
Nine: Stay out of the direct sunlight as much as possible and use an alcohol free sun protector if you must be in it for a prolonged amount of time.
Ten: Coconut oil that is natural and deodorant-free, and that has not been refined or processed is fantastic for moisturizing your skin. It is wonderful for not only keeping your skin hydrated, but also has natural healing powers in it that are good for blemishes and acne. It is also convenient because it can be worn under your makeup.
