How to Solve the Health Care Fiasco in the U.S

Disease Prevention is the Only Solution

Lucien Beauley
This article presents a suggested direction to take that will finally end this struggle and in the process save our health and its present approach which common sense tells us will lead to the present system's final bankruptcy.

Is The Solution Really So Simple?

If disease or sickness of any kind did not exist there would be little need for medical care except for injury from accident, natural disaster, etc. Unfortunately, disease does exist, but we can prevent much of it by properly "feeding" our immune system. Therein lies the solution. Presently, we are "feeding" a system which gives us a negative ROI[return on investment]. It is like investing in a continually falling stock market and we know the end result. We can continue to follow that path and experience the misery of its demise or simply change our present fruitless approach.

The Present Trends In Our Health Care System

In the most recent speech by President Obama he has brought up the simple fact that our present health care costs are doubling every ten years. It is presently increasing at a double-digit pace every year. It should not be increasing at more than the average inflation rate. This simply says that our health care costs are rising at about three times more than the average. The "writing is on the wall', the present system will soon "collapse" if we don't stop it. A simple observation: Are we getting better medical care from the yearly increase of this present system? Is there any aid in preventing disease? With this present recession it is obvious that the health care industry is the only one doing the hiring, needing more and more people to keep sick people alive. This is good for the insurance providers along with those companies that provide us with prescription drugs but not for the recipients who use the health care system. They are losing their homes, savings, etc.

What Must We Do?

Our health care system has to make the change to a "disease prevention" system through teaching of the use, promotion of natural organic foods and wane away from highly processed foods. This should be taught in our schools as part of a required subject just as english, math, science, etc. are required subjects. Presently, the U.S. is near the bottom of the list of industrialized nations as far as health is concerned and yet we have some of the best medical technology in the world. Other countries ban toxic substances that could affect their health, but somehow we are reluctant to follow their ways. The people must be made aware that unless we adopt the system that first "prevents" disease and sickness our nation will fall by the wayside and we have already begun this path.
