How Sony Can Increase PSP Go Value

Otter
The PSP Go is slated for an October 1st release. Early indications don't look so good for Sony, however, as the new PSP model doesn't seem to be drawing in any new consumers. As a result, the PSP Go will face some disappointing sales this holiday season. So how could Sony quickly improve the value of the PSP Go? Here are several suggestions that will help boost sales for the upcoming new PSP model.

UMD Attachment
When they revealed the PSP Go earlier this year, Sony promised an option for existing PSP owners to transfer their UMD games over to the new system. However, that seems highly unlikely to happen now. This is unfortunate as many current PSP owners were planning to upgrade to the PSP Go. As a result, Sony needs to find a way to transfer UMD games to the new system if they want to improve the value of the PSP Go.

One suggestion is to release a UMD attachment for the new model. This optional peripheral should allow existing PSP gamers to play their old games via UMD. Not to mention that the optional drive would also be another revenue stream for Sony. With the UMD issue resolve, the value of the PSP Go should go up significantly.

More Content on Playstation Store
By removing the UMD drive, Sony made the PSP Go completely reliant on digital distribution via the Playstation Store. To many consumers, this is a big drawback since not all UMD games will be available to download digitally. Furthermore, the new PSP model requires Wi-Fi.

Although it may be impossible to bring every retail game released so far on UMD to the Playstation Store, Sony should nevertheless get as many as possible. They must also consistently release new PSP Minis and PSOne Classics as well in order to keep the value of the PSP Go high. As long as there is new content, the new PSP model should sell at a brisk pace.

Price Drop
Many consumers agree that the $249.99 price tag is the biggest drawback to the PSP Go, especially with all three home consoles dropping to a cheaper price tag recently. Sony may be in a predicament since the high price is the direct result of retailers wanting a bigger cut due to the digital distribution model of the PSP Go. If they want the new PSP model to sell, however, they must quickly lower the price. As of right now, the PSP Go is way overvalued. A launch price tag of $199.99 would have made a world of difference in the eyes of prospective buyers.
