How Soon Should Children Start Dance Classes?

Parents of little boys and girls generally think ahead of time about putting their children in dance classes but how soon should children start dance classes? Fortunately most dance instructors have certain guidelines which they follow in terms of how soon children start dance classes.

Before you go out and buy cute little pink leotards and tights and ballet and tap shoes see if your child really shows an interest in dance classes. If this is something that interests them take them to visit a couple of dance schools to find a good fit. Allow the child to watch the other children in class and see if they find it appealing if so then most likely you are in the right place.

Most dance schools also have guidelines in terms of age at which they accept children. Most dance teachers accept children from the age of 3 years old and this applies to little boys and little girls. You want to insure the child is not too young so that they have the attention span to pay attention to dance instructions as well as to follow their peers in following dance steps.

Three years old is a wonderful age at which to start children in dance classes because they are at a curious age and this is a time when they absorb information but you also want to consider your individual child's maturity level. Don't be standoffish in enrolling your son in dance classes as history has shown some of the worlds most famous and talented dancers have been men.

Allowing children to start dance classes helps them to foster a positive image while also teaching them poise, grace and discipline. This also gives your child an advantage in terms of confidence and teachers them a love for the arts early in life.
