The imagination is what makes children think to gather things from the trash to build something else. They learn how to use their imagination to actually create things. That is what life is all about. The more imagination you have, the more creative you will be. That is a given and there is no way around it. We often look at our child's imagination as something useless and childish. It goes far beyond that. Had it not been for a child's imagination we wouldn't have computers or even phones for that matter. If it hadn't been for a child's imagination we wouldn't be able to travel around the world with such great ease. Everything that we have and can do came from the spark of a child's imagination.
How to spark a child's imagination:
Reading- Reading is a fundamental things for children to learn. It is important that parents take the time to read to their children in order to help spark their imagination. When people read (or are read to), it brings out the best of their imaginations. Reading can take people places they have never been and make the mind think about things they never thought of before. This is the number one way in which you can help spark your child's imagination.
Playtime- Playtime is one of the most important factors in sparking a child's imagination. This is the time when all the thoughts in a child's head comes out and shows what the child thinks and dreams about. This is where their passion will shine through and you can often tell what type of job a child will want when they grow up by watching them play. It is important that children get outdoors and run free for a while so they have a chance to show their imagination off a little bit. Your child might be the leader because he/she tends to lead the other kids into the wild and imaginary world that children have. Encourage your children to play outdoors as well as indoors aside from watching television and playing video games. That is the only way to truly spark a child's full imagination.
Music- Music can spark the imagination like nothing else can. It sparks body movement imagination and lyrics imagination. Music and dance are arts and these two art forms have great potential to motivate an imagination in ways that would otherwise remain stifled from the world. Music will definitely make the feet tap but it also relaxes the body which leaves the mind more open and imagination needs an open mind.
Visual Arts- Visual arts, such as painting and drawing are another great way to spark the imagination of your child. It gives the child a chance to be creative by telling a story through pictures rather than words. This is a great way for children to learn to express themselves and to show what wonderful imaginations that they have.
The above are just a few examples of how you can help spark the imagination of your child. Your child's future depends on how well you can spark his or her imagination. Encourage all of the above to get your children to think about what they want to do and how they want to do it. Great ideas start as a spark in the child's imagination. It just gets bigger as they do.
