Seeing how this saturday was national talk like a pirate day, I thought I would teach you a think or too about the language myself (mainly because last year I did not know how to insult my boss in pirate). So for all you landlubbers out there here is how to talk like a pirate for next year's national talk like a pirate day.

First, the pirate basics:

Aye means yes, i agree or sounds good

Grub means food
Booty means valuable treasures
Ye means you
Arrr means many things like yes, you are happy or you like something. That is just a few of the many things arrr can mean.

Popular Pirate Phrases:

Shiver me Timbers! means that you are shocked or in disbelief
Batten down the hatches means tie down the ship, a storms a brewin'
Thar she blows! means you sighted a whale
Advanced Pirate:Grog means a drink most commonly beer. Yarrr! This grog tickles me innards!

Davy Jones's Locker is the imaginary place where dead pirates go.
Scallywag means a strong insult to a loser.

Ways to spice up your pirate know that you know the basics:

Instead of saying something like let's go golfing add be in-between let's and golfing. Ex: let's be going bowling tonight.
Never say the g at the end of an action. Always just end it with in'. Ex: We be pillagin' tonight.
Always pronounce the r's really hard. It makes the Yars and Arrrghs sound even more pirate.
I hope me article be pleasin' to ye, I know I had me a chuckle or two scriblin' this.If there are any words you would like to know that I did not mention then just find an English to pirate translator on the internet. Now get out there and impress all ye scallywag chums with your impressive tongue.
