Normally, your computer speed depends on its RAM and Hard Drive. To make your computer operates faster, you should optimize your RAM, leave as many free space in your hard drive as possible and never forget to defrag your hard drive frequently.

There are many software that help you to defrag hard drive and optimize RAM to boost the speed of your computer. However, I recommend you to use Power Defragmenter and Speed It Up because they are freeware. Besides, these two programs do not occur much of your system resources.

Power Defragmenter can be downloaded here. It is only about 500 KB. You can run Power Defragmenter directly in the downloaded zipped folder without installing. Unlike other program, Power Defragmenter also speeds up defragment process. Users can easily recognize defragmenting speed of this software is much faster than the default disk defragment in Windows or other defragment software. There are four different modes for you to choose when the program is activated:

Defragment File(s): Defrag up to four files.

Defragment Folder(s): Defrag up to four folders.

Defragment Disk: Defrag all files and folders in your hard drives.

PowerModeâ„¢ Disk Defragmentation: A smart defragment mode, this will defrag all your computer with the fastest speed.

After defragmenting your hard drive, you will find out that your PC's speed increased a lot. You should also refer the article How to Defrag Your Hard Drive Professionally for more options on defragmenting.

Next, you start with optimizing hard drive process. Speed It Up Free is the program that help you to function your Windows, RAM and hard drive with full speed. Therefore, the operating speed will be boosted up to 300%. Speed It Up Free is also free and easy to use.

At first, you have to download the program here with only 5 MB. Then, run Speed It Up Free and choose Speed It Up tab. Mark Windows Optimization, RAM Booster and Hard Disk Speed Up. Click "Speed Up Computer Now" to begin the process. After this, Speed It Up Free will go through six steps automatically from analyze, free space... to the last step, optimize.

It took my computer about half an hour to finish all of the process. My experience shows that the speed depends on the hard drive and RAM. The bigger the hard drive and RAM, the longer the process will take. I recommend you do not repeat the optimizing process after at least an hour or more.

After finish defragmenting and optimizing, I feel that my computer operate much faster than it was before the process. I hope you will also be successful to boost your PC performance with my method.

Defragging a drive is very important, and the best defragging program I have used is Diskeeper Pro. The good thing about it is you can leave it on the auto defrag mode and it will run in the background without hindering other programs. This way it defragments when necessary only, and you don't need to worry about forgetting to defrag. It also optimizes system performance by defragging the master file table and system files (if you select that option)

There are free fully functional trial versions available for evaluation at http://www.diskeeper.com/downloads/menu.aspx
