How to Speed Up the Loading Time of Firefox

Tips on Making Firefox Load Faster for Old Computers

Less is better

The more things you have to load the slower it will load. If you have 3 different search bars that have to load, this will slow it down a bit. Most of them connect to the servers of the search bar. You really do not need a search bar added on to Firefox because it already comes with a search feature. I use Google on mine, but Firefox lets you easily add or remove a search engine from its internal list. If you right-click on the menu bar in Firefox, you will pull up a menu that will show any search bars that are installed. If you have them and use the method I described above you should just un-install them.

Blank Home Page

I use this method because it reduces the loading time because it has no initial extra connection to make during start up of Firefox. You can use this method on any browser though. From the tests I have done it makes a small additional decrease of the load times with most browsers. Unless you are a person who must have a homepage of a website, this is the best route to go. It allows me to fire up Firefox come to a blank page, then I can just click one of the bookmarks I have on my Bookmarks Toolbar.

Basic Theme

Themes are great looking but can slow down the loading times. Keeping the basic theme that Firefox has is good enough if not having a theme doesn't bother you that bad. It is enough for me; I know on a slow computer I don't try to have my theme of the pc or the browser flashy. The more images the browser has to load for the UI the more the longer it will take to load.

Keep it Simple

The only bars you should really use are the Menu Bar, Navigation Toolbar, and Bookmarks Toolbar. The reason being, not much more else is needed. It has the main things you will use while browsing the internet. If you want to increase loading time you have to be willing to sacrifice some of the small things like all of the add-ons you can install.
