Now that swimsuit season is around the corner, everyone is trying to shed the winter weight gain. It is possible to lose weight without much effort by simply making some behavioral changes. Here are some tips on how to speed up your metabolism.

Dieting can be so daunting and exhausting, just thinking about it. But if you make some minor changes to your eating habits and exercise routine, you may be able to lose weight without restricting your calories. This can be accomplished by speeding up your metabolism.

Your metabolism is the body's mechanism for burning calories. Your metabolism is made up of three things. One: basal metabolic rate. This is how your body burns calories by living, e.g. breathing, heart rate, and brain function. In fact, the brain requires the most energy. You cannot change your basal metabolic rate. But there are two other ways in which we burn calories that can be changed.

Activity is one of the two ways we speed up metabolism. Obviously, the more active we are, the more calories we burn. That is why all diet programs encourage activity to help speed up metabolism and burn calories. The more lean body mass we have, i.e. muscle, the more calories we burn. So, women should be afraid to work out with weights. Despite the myth, you will not bulk up. You will lean out and increase your ability to burn calories. Muscle burns more calories than fat, so include weight-bearing exercises in your routine.

The third and final way we burn calories is through the thermic effect of food. That's right: we burn calories when we eat. So, skipping meals and eating less frequently is actually harmful for weight loss. It is important to eat regularly to keep that fire burning. So, in order to speed up your metabolism, you need to eat every three to five hours (except while you are sleeping). That is also why it is important to eat breakfast. After fasting all night long, your body is ready for fuel to energize your day. Skipping breakfast places your body in starvation mode and slows down your metabolism. So at lunchtime, your body will likely turn some of that meal into fat for the next time you starve it. So, you should eat breakfast within thirty minutes of waking up in order to jumpstart your metabolism.

Thank you for reading How to Speed Up Your Metabolism, and good luck with achieving the weight you desire.
