Speeding Up your computer seems to be a necessity with Windows XP, after a while its speed declines and decreases rapidly. We would like our computers to work with the speed and efficiency that they had when we first bought them, well it's not that hard to return it to its state and speed of when you first bought it. Many of my friends take their Desktop Computers or laptops to a PC shop, like PC World for regular check up as recommended by PC World, which they usually have to pay for.
Speeding up your computer or laptop is very easy something you can do yourself at home. The experts you pay to do it, do nothing that is much more different from what you can do.
A Computers' speed usually declines because of the large space taken up by temporary files and history files. So computers are mainly slow because of lack of sufficient memory, too many processes always running for the RAM it uses or a virus using system resources and equally, programs you've installed yourself which takes up too much resources (Norton Internet Security for example, - Never liked the program anyway. I think the best anti virus is Prevx1 and Windows Defender for those who don't want to spend any money. I use Windows Defender because it's unobtrusive, and very effective at removing and eradicating viruses. Perfect for me because I don't mind getting viruses, just as long as I can get rid of them).
To start speeding up your computer, download and install CCleaner (originally known as Crap Cleaner), it is one of the best tool for creating space on your computer. CCleaner makes space by clearing your temporary Internet files, your cookies, history, recently typed URLs, Autocomplete Form History, the files in the list of your recent documents, your recycle bin, Chkdsk file fragments, old prefetch data and so on. CCleaner does all this when you press one button (although you have to press the one button twice). The first time I used it, it freed some 900 MB on computer. It can also be used to clean errors in the registry of your computer.
Other good tools I use for speeding up my computer include TuneUp Utilities and Speed it up free. The utility, Disk Doctor on TuneUp Utilities does pretty much the same thing as CCleaner. Good tool to use on TuneUp Utilities are the TuneUp registry defragmenter, and the TuneUp System Optimizer.
Speed it up free Optimizes your windows, Boosts, the space available on your RAM, cleans up your Internet files, like history and cookies and speeds up your hard drive, or hard drives as the case may be. It's basically defragments your hard drive and rearranges your files in a better way for your system. The two most effective things on speed it up free are the RAM Booster and the Hard Disk SpeedUp. The RAM Booster frees up space on your RAM (Random Access Memory, in case you don't know).
